Loyola's JV Golf team started the week off right down in Huntington Beach, taking home the team title at the Surf City Invitational on Monday (Mar. 11) at SeaCliff Country Club.
Loyola's Blue Team, with a lineup consisting of junior Luca Tomaro '20, sophomores Blake Shepard '21 and Ryan Torii '21, and freshmen Dominic Paine '22, Aaron Park '22 and Sebastian Basa '22, shot a combined 400 to finish in first place at the event. Shepard and Basa both recorded team-lows of 78s.
The Cubs' White Team, comprised of sophomore Finley Walshe '21, freshmen Charlie O'Donnell '22, Vincent Gumbs '22 and Brooks Benson '22, and juniors Collin Flynn '20 and Elijah Morris '20, shot a combined 431.
Additionally, both of Loyola's coaches–Lee Jackson and Jason Schmidt–had some fun of their own on the course, finishing 1-2 in the "Closest to the Pin" coaches competition.
The Cubs will prepare for more action tomorrow (Mar. 12) when they host Los Alamitos for a 3:15 p.m. match at Wilson & Harding GC.
