The reigning national champion and No. 1-ranked Loyola Volleyball team (28-1) has its sight set on yet another CIF title, this time with No. 2-ranked Mira Costa (35-3) lined up in its path. The showdown between the two South Bay rivals in the CIF Southern Section FORD Division I championship game will take place at Cerritos College this Saturday (May 11) at 6:30PM.

ON CAMPUS: Sealed, unopened drinks and food WILL be permitted in the gym. Noisemakers are prohibited (bells, horns, sirens, chimes, etc.)
PLAYOFF RUNDOWN: Loyola earned the top overall seed in this year’s CIF-SS Division I Playoffs and advanced out of Pool A with a 3-0 record, downing [5] Huntington Beach (3-1), [8] Mater Dei (3-0), and [4] Newport Harbor (3-1) in succession to move into the finals. Mira Costa, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, advanced out of Pool B with wins over [6] Tesoro (3-0), [7] Edison (3-1), and [3] Corona Del Mar (3-1).
A win on Saturday would add a 13th CIF Southern Section Volleyball championship for the program and head coach/Loyola alum Michael Boehle ’84. Loyola already has the CIF record with 12 total titles and is looking for its first since 2016. Boehle has led the Cubs to six of those, including two wins over Mira Costa in both the 2005 and 2010 CIF Finals.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cubs and Mustangs have already met once this season, playing on March 22nd in Manhattan Beach. Loyola emerged victorious in four sets (25-23, 23-25, 25-16, 25-17), playing in front of a raucous Cub crowd. Recap videos here and here.
