ENTRANCE: Seating is at a first come, first served basis at Smith Field. Spectators are allowed to bring bleacher support seats. Home fans, visiting fans, and students have their own marked sections: Loyola fans will sit west of the 50 yard line, opponents sit east of the 50.
ON CAMPUS: The snack/drink bar from Zlicious Eatz will be open. An additional food stand is available in the gym parking lot adjacent to Leavey Gym/behind the Visitor bleachers.
LAST TIME OUT: Loyola won its second consecutive league game with a 45-28 road victory at Crespi in Encino last Friday (Oct. 13). Junior Desi Valdes ’25 had a pair of special teams touchdowns, starting with a scoop and score with 0:01 left on the clock in the first half after a blocked Crespi FG attempt by senior Jake Arellano ’24. Valdes recovered the ball and motored his way 60 yards into the endzone to pad the Cubs lead going into the break (31-7) and opened the second half with another big play, returning the kickoff 80 yards for the touchdown (38-7).
PREVIEW: Loyola (3-5, 2-1 Angelus League) will host Paraclete (6-2, 1-2) on Senior Night at Smith Field. Last season, the Cubs defeated the Spirits, 31-12, in Lancaster. This year, a playoff spot is there for the taking as the Cubs currently sit second in the Angelus League standings at 2-1 –– tied with St. Paul (2-1) and ahead of upcoming opponents Paraclete and Cathedral (both 1-2). A win over Paraclete would likely clinch a playoff berth for Loyola, who need just a Top 3 finish in league play to secure a fourth-straight postseason appearance under fifth-year HC Drew Casani ’91 (no CIF Playoffs in 2020).
UNDERCLASSMEN: Loyola has a sophomore-only team and a freshman-only team to round out its three-level football program. The Class of 2026 sophomores followed up their undefeated freshman campaign in 2022 with a second-straight league title in 2023, this time going 3-0 with wins at St. Francis (W 31-13), vs St. Paul (31-8), and at Crespi (24-0). They will close out their season with a pair of games at Mira Costa (Oct. 19 at 6PM) and home vs Inglewood (Oct. 26 at 7PM). The game in Manhattan Beach will be streamed by the NFHS Network here.
The Freshman team continues to roll with a five-game winning streak, most recently defeating Bishop Amat, 35-10 on Saturday (Oct. 14). The Class of 2027 stays home for a pair of Thursday 4PM contests against Paraclete (Oct. 19) and Cathedral (Oct. 26) to finish up their schedule.
