PREVIEW: This Friday marks the third-straight meeting between Loyola and Cathedral, with Loyola winning in 2021 and Cathedral winning in 2022. With a dominating 36-7 win over Paraclete last Friday on Senior Night, the Cubs are in line for a Top 2 finish in Angelus League play and an automatic berth into the 2023 CIF-SS Playoffs
Loyola is currently alone in second place in league with a 3-1 record. After dropping their first contest, the Cubs have rattled off three-straight wins: vs St. Paul (W 25-11), at Crespi (W 45-28), and vs Paraclete (W 36-7). Cathedral is currently tied for third with St. Paul at 2-2 in league, dropping games against Paraclete (L 7-21) and St. Francis (L 25-41) and winning over Crespi (W 56-0) and St. Paul (W 28-21).
A Loyola win on Friday would clinch sole possession of second place in league, while a loss would create a tie for second between Loyola, Cathedral, and potentially St. Paul (if the Swordsmen defeat St. Francis on Friday). The Cubs are still in the running for a first place finish in league as well, should St. Francis lose at St. Paul in their league finale.
UNDERCLASSMEN: The final games of the season for Loyola’s lower level teams are here, with both games being held at Smith Field on Thursday (Oct. 26). The Frosh (7-4 overall) host Cathedral at 4PM and the Sophomores (3-6) host Inglewood at 7PM. Both squads have already won their respective league championships. Their season finales will be livestreamed via the NFHS Network below:
