LOYOLA HIGH SCHOOL NAMES CAMERON "CAM" JOYCE HEAD VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH
LOS ANGELES, CA | April 15, 2025 — Loyola High School of Los Angeles, the oldest continually operated educational institution in Southern California, announced today (Apr. 15) the hiring of Cameron "Cam" Joyce to helm its storied basketball program. Prior to his move to Loyola, Joyce was at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio where he was a successful head coach and the school's director of youth sports for six years.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Joyce and his family to Loyola High School," said Loyola Athletic Director Chris O'Donnell '88. "He comes to Los Angeles with a championship pedigree, having excelled at both the university level as well as the high school level. He took Saint Ignatius to new heights, including a Division I state championship in 2023-24, five straight district championships, four Division I regional championships, and four state Final Four appearances in just six seasons. With his wealth of experience, Coach Joyce is poised for success at Loyola."
Most recently, Joyce led the Wildcats to a school record 26 wins during the 2024-2025 season while compiling an overall record of 118-44 (.738) as head coach at Saint Ignatius. He was twice named Coach of the Year in Northeast Ohio for all divisions by cleveland.com and led the school to a Top 40 national ranking by season's end in 2024. Eighteen of his former players are competing at the collegiate level. Prior to his career at Saint Ignatius, he was the Director of Operations at Ohio University; Assistant Video Coordinator at the University of Florida; and Assistant Coach at Northwood University.
Coach Joyce values winning, but more importantly, the mentoring of his student-athletes. "Loyola High School's legacy in athletics and academics is legendary," said Coach Joyce. "Their motto of 'Men for and With Others' resonates deeply with me since I am coming from a fellow Jesuit school. Through basketball, I try to develop young men into what they are meant to be."
Coach Joyce joins Loyola Basketball's legendary roster of CIF championship-winning coaches including Bill Barnett, former Loyola Principal Bill Thomason, Jim Williamson and current Principal/President-Elect Jamal Adams '90.

About Loyola High School
Celebrating its 160th anniversary as the oldest continually operated educational institution in Southern California, Loyola High School is an academically rigorous Jesuit college preparatory, located just west of downtown Los Angeles and counts with more than 17,000 alumni. Loyola's student body of over 1290 young men represents a remarkable geographic diversity, drawing on over 190 zip codes from throughout and beyond Los Angeles County. The school is also ethnically diverse with more than 45 percent of the student body of Latino, Asian-Pacific or African American descent. To enable students to achieve the goal of being "Men for and With Others," Loyola students must complete at least 140 hours of community service work before graduation, with many contributing nearly 200 hours. Over the past two-and-a-half decades, Loyola students have donated more than three million hours of community service, primarily to inner-city schools, neighborhoods and agencies.
