Off to a 7-0 start, Loyola’s Varsity Baseball team has emerged as the top-ranked team in the first CIF-SS Division II Baseball Poll of the year, released Monday (Mar. 4) by the CIF-SS Advisory Committee.
The Cubs, who were unranked in the Feb. 4 preseason poll, are off to a hot start in 2019 having scored 61 runs compared to just 14 allowed in eight games (8.7 runs/game).

Loyola took the opening game over St. Francis yesterday in the first Mission League series of the year, defeating the Golden Knights, 5-0, at Hernandez Field behind a 3-for-3 performance from junior catcher Kevin Parada ’20 and 8 strikeouts and 6 2/3 scoreless innings from junior RHP Derek Yoo ’20.
The Cubs will travel to the Glendale Sports Complex on Thursday (Mar. 7) for game two of the series against St. Francis before returning home to close things out on Friday (Mar. 8). First pitch for both games is set for 3 p.m.
