Two former Cub Baseball players were recently selected in the 2019 MLB Draft, with Nate Hadley '14 going to the Minnesota Twins in Round 25 and Angelo Armenta '14 being picked up by the Tampa Bay Rays in Round 38.

Nate Hadley - Sr. - RHP - UCLA

Minnesota Twins - Round 25, Pick 749

Hadley was a three-year varsity letter winner for Loyola and was named 2014 Mission League Pitcher of the Year, helping the Cubs advance to the second round of the CIF-SS Division I Playoffs. As a senior, he was also named to the All-State First Team, All-CIF Southern Section First Team, and the 2014 Perfect Game All-Region First Team. At UCLA, Hadley has been part of the Bruin bullpen with a 2.32 ERA. He has eight wins as a reliever and his 38 appearances this year rank third in the Pac-12.

Angelo Armenta - Gr. - INF - San Diego State/USC

Tampa Bay Rays - Round 38, Pick 1148

Armenta was also a three-year varsity letter winner at Loyola and went on to play for four years at nearby USC before being granted a fifth year and using it to attend graduate school at San Diego State. While at Loyola, he was ranked the No. 5 middle infielder in California and was an All-Mission League shortstop in 2012 and 2014 and a 2013 Perfect Game Underclass All-American. Armenta was also named Offensive MVP for the Cubs in 2014. At SDSU, he was an All-Mountain West Second Team pick, starting all 57 games at shortstop for the Aztecs in 2019. Armenta was also part of 51 double plays this year, helping SDSU to their nation-leading total of 71 double plays.

In addition, Cub alum Blake Beers ’17 and his Michigan Wolverines team advanced to the 2019 College World Series over the weekend, defeating Hadley and the Bruins in the Los Angeles Super Regional. The sophomore RHP was a 2017 Perfect Game First Team All-State, First Team All-Region honoree and Third Team All-American for Loyola before graduating two years ago.
