Championship Saturday on deck for Loyola Water Polo!
The top-ranked and No. 1-seeded Cubs will compete for their first CIF-SS Division I Water Polo Championship this weekend (Nov. 13) against Oaks Christian, with the game slated for 4:10PM at Woollett Aquatics Center in Irvine. Head coach Erik Healy, in his 17th year leading the program, and the Cubs are looking to add another CIF championship to Loyola Athletics’ trophy case and the first water polo title in school history.
Loyola advanced to the CIF Finals with a 12-9 victory over Long Beach Wilson on Wednesday (Nov. 10) in the semis. The Cubs came out firing from the opening sprint and led from start to finish, propelled by five goals from junior Will Sanchez ’23, four from Christopher Wazzan ’22, two from Nolan Roberts ’23 and one from David Morales ’22. Senior goalkeeper Calvin Cardenas ’22 also came up big between the pipes and stopped a 5-meter penalty shot to keep the Bruins at bay. (Click here for game highlights!)
