Loyola Tennis will compete for the 2022 CIF Southern Section Division I Championship this Friday (May 13) against Mira Costa at the Claremont Club. The streaking Cubs bring some serious momentum to the finals against the Mustangs and will look to claim the fourth CIF Tennis title in school history.
WHAT: CIF-SS Division I Playoffs – Championship
WHO: [4] Loyola (14-7-1) vs [3] Mira Costa (15-5-3)
WHEN: Friday, May 13th at 11:20AM
WHERE: The Claremont Club - Claremont, CA
LAST TIME OUT: After a pair of 12-6 victories in both the CIF Second Round (at Santa Margarita) and Quarterfinal (vs San Marino), Loyola secured a spot in the CIF Championship final after a tight 10-8 victory at Arcadia in the semifinals.
PREVIEW: Familiar foes Loyola and Mira Costa meet each other for the second time this season. The first meeting went the way of the Mustangs, but all the way back on February 17th in just Loyola’s second match of the season. The Cubs fell in that one, 8-10, in Manhattan Beach. Loyola, now at full strength, will have the chance to avenge that early season loss at the Claremont Club.
2022 CIF PLAYOFFS: A win in the championship match would give longtime HC Brian Held ’93 and the Cubs Loyola’s first CIF-SS Division I Tennis title and the fourth CIF Championship in school history. For the full 2022 CIF bracket, click here.
