The Cubs kicked off the 2019 water polo season with an explosive 29-1 victory over Alemany to start off the season 1-0. The team is looking forward to a promising season, with a strong roster of varsity veterans such as seniors Carson Kranz and Owen Hale and varsity newcomers, like sophomore Owen Reilly and junior Robert Varley.
By the end of the first quarter, the Cubs boasted an impressive 11-1 lead over the Alemany Warriors. By the end of the second quarter, the Cubs’ quick offense and tight defense had pushed the lead to an impressive 21-1. The third quarter provided less scoring but more action, with the Cubs burying a rare 6-on-4 opportunity. The game ended with an astounding 29-1 victory for the Cubs.
Brett Engstrom, father of junior Griffin Engstrom and senior Keegan Engstrom, said he was most looking forward to “watching them play together in the pool at the same time.” Both Griffin and Keegan are veterans of the varsity team and are regular starters
Another parent excited for season is Oscar Morales, father of sophomore David Morales. He is most excited to see David “getting to learn from the older guys. Hopefully he picks up some of their confidence,” he said.
