The Loyola Track & Field team participated in six events and advanced to the CIF Masters Meet in five of them, finishing in sixth place overall at the CIF Division I Finals today (May 11) at El Camino College.
New personal bests were set in the 1600m (Anthony Stone ’20 - 4:16.09) and the 800m (Mason Ratkovich ’19 - 1:52.38). Both distance runners qualified for next week’s Masters Meet at El Camino as Stone took fifth place and Ratkovich finished as runner-up.
Senior Andrew Arth ’19 will race twice next week at the Masters after having qualified with his third-place finish in the 400m dash (47.90) and as part of the 4x400 relay team with Ratkovich, Jeremy Davis ’19 and Ceyair Wright ’21, which finished fourth overall at 3:17.89.
Finally, senior pole vaulter Will O’Brien ’19 took a runner-up finish in his event, clearing 15-6 and advancing to the Masters as Loyola’s lone field event representative.
The Cubs finished in sixth with 34 points overall, just 2 points out of fourth (West Ranch HS - 36) and 1.5 points out of fifth (Aliso Niguel - 35.5). Loyola was 7.5 points clear of seventh-place finisher Great Oak (26.5). The season continues for the Cubs, with the Masters Meet taking place next Saturday (May 18) at 10:30 a.m. at El Camino College in Torrance.
