There was a massive upset victory for Loyola Tennis and longtime head coach Brian Held ’93 on Thursday afternoon as the Varsity Cubs defeated league rival Harvard-Westlake, 10-8, at Weddington Tennis courts in Studio City.
The win snapped a 20+ year Mission League winning streak for the Wolverines, who were also unbeaten heading into Thursday’s match against the Cubs. Loyola is now in first place in the Mission League with a 3-0 record, tallying wins on the road at Crespi (18-0 on Mar. 30), Chaminade (14-4 on Apr. 14) and Harvard-Westlake (10-8 on Apr. 15).
Up next for the Cubs is a clash with the Titans of San Marino HS on Monday (Apr. 19) at 3:30PM. They will then return to the courts for more league action on Tuesday (Apr. 20) at 1PM, hosting Notre Dame at Cheviot Hills Tennis Center, followed by a visit to Crespi on Wednesday (Apr. 21) at 1PM.
