The 2019 US Lacrosse Northern Division Championship pairings were released on Sunday morning (Apr. 28), and Loyola was tabbed the No. 2 overall seed in the playoff bracket.
With their entry, the Cubs (12-7) earned the opportunity to host Tuesday's first round game against No. 15 seed West Ranch HS of Valencia (15-2) on Apr. 30 at Smith Field, with first draw set for 6 p.m.
A win there would put the Cubs into the quarterfinals against the winner of the first round matchup between No. 7-seeded Mira Costa and No. 10 St. John Bosco. Should Loyola advance out of the quarterfinals, a potential semifinal game would come against the winner of the top part of the bracket, which includes No. 3 Oaks Christian, No. 6 Westlake, No. 11 Sierra Canyon and Mission League counterpart St. Francis as the No. 14 seed. In total, five out of six Mission League teams made the playoffs, with No. 4 Harvard-Westlake, No. 9 Chaminade and No. 12 Crespi all occupying the opposite side of the bracket.
Led by head coach Seth Cohen, the Cubs are three-time defending CIF-SS State Champions and recently won the 2019 Mission League Championship. In the final MaxLax coaches poll of the season, Loyola came in at No. 2 overall.
