Loyola comes into this season fresh off of a deep playoff run and started the game with the urgency of a hungry team. Loyola scored their first goal in the form of a header from senior Malcolm Hawkins assisted by fellow senior Nathaniel Smith-Hastie in the 9th minute. In the 25th minute Loyola struck again with a goal from sophomore Warren Langton, making the score 2-0. Loyola scored again shortly after with a strike from senior Peter Hyan raising the score to 3-0 Loyola. The first half came to a conclusion with Loyola sitting atop a commanding 3-0 lead. Within two minutes of the second half Loyola’ Eric Estrada scored a neat header off a cross from senior James Redington making the score 4-0. The game finished with Loyola winning 4-0 and going 1-0 in the season. The Cubs travel to Santa Ana HS for a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal match where the Cubs won 3-0.
