Though it was a shakier start than usual for the Cubs at Lakewood GC, Loyola’s Varsity Golf team eventually settled in at the CIF Central Division Team Championships and cruised to victory by 12 strokes, winning the program’s 10th CIF title and the seventh in the last eight years under head coach Robb Gorr on Monday (May 13).
The Cubs battled back from a number of early bogeys on the front nine to post a team score of 369 (+9), which was 12 strokes clear of second place Peninsula HS (381). Four players finished 2-over par, with Daniel Nunez ’19, Justin Wallender ’19, Brian Arnold ’20 and Timmy Von Der Ahe ’21 recording 74s. Sophomore Justin Lee ’21 was the low man for Loyola with his 1-over 73.
