Loyola’s Varsity Football team earned a spot in the 2019 CIF-SS Ford Division IV Playoffs, as brackets were released earlier today (Sunday, Nov. 3) by the CIF Southern Section.
The Cubs were one of six At-Large teams chosen in the 16-team field and will face Bay League champion, automatic qualifier and No. 3 seed Palos Verdes (8-2) in the First Round on Friday (Nov. 8). More game information and details to come.
UPDATE: Friday's CIF First Round playoff game will be played at South Torrance HS at 7:00 p.m.
Under first-year head coach Drew Casani ’91, Loyola is making a return appearance into the CIF-SS Football Playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season, where the Cubs went 9-3 overall and were ranked No. 17 in the state. On that team was a pair of standouts in David Long Jr. ’16 (Michigan; Los Angeles Rams) and Myles Bryant ’16 (Washington).
One of the all-time winningest football programs in CIF and California State history, this will mark Loyola’s 47th appearance in the CIF playoffs.
