Being on the road for the past five games hasn’t fazed the Cubs. Wearing white again on Wednesday evening, Loyola took on the Bishop Alemany Warriors.
To open up the game, Liam Hook places the shot in the upper right corner but it’s saved nicely by the Alemany keeper. Minutes later Roberts hits the same shot but it’s saved again by their keeper. For a third try, Doody runs it up on the left side and dishes it to Roberts. Roberts’s shot goes high off the crossbar and misses. In the final minutes of the half senior Ben Bolte rips a shot from far out but it’s topped off the crossbar and it misses. In extra time, senior Grayson Doody is fouled in Alemany’s box and receives a PK. Michael Maloney takes it and scores! 1-0.
Loyola keeps the offensive pressure moving throughout the second half, but even with double-digit shots on goal, the Cubs can only get one more in. Junior Kenechi Ekeomodi crosses one from far out and Maloney is there for the finish. He jumps and tips the ball with his head and the ball goes right above the keeper’s head for a goal, 2-0 Loyola.
Like usual the Cubs have shown their capability as an offensive threat, but find some difficulty when it comes to finishing. With a bit more work and confidence when it comes to taking shots from outside the box, Mission League games like these should see plenty of more goals from the Cubs. This Friday they take on Notre Dame @home at 5pm.
