Loyola’s Junior Varsity and Freshman Basketball teams concluded a pair of successful seasons last week, showing great promise for the future of Cub Basketball.
The JV team finished its year with a 24-3 record, compiling two different streaks of nine and 14-consecutive victories throughout the season while also capturing tournament titles in Los Alamitos and Burbank along the way. Led by longtime head coach Thomas Pichotta and assistant coach Alex Ettinger ‘14, the Cubs won their first nine games of the season and would later finish atop the Mission League.
The Frosh team wrapped up its first season in a Loyola uniform with a 22-5 overall record, which included two five-game winning streaks and another nine-game unbeaten streak. In their first tournament as Cubs back in November, the freshmen took home the Morningside HS Tournament Championship under the guidance of head coach Louie Huerta and assistant coach Akinty Carter ’16. Loyola would later go on to win 14 of its last 15 games.
Congratulations to all of our student-athletes on great seasons!
