PREVIEW: Loyola has advanced to its second CIF Southern Section Playoff Semifinal game in the last four years (and first since 2019) under head coach Drew Casani ’91. Last Friday, the Cubs pulled off the comeback on the road at No. 12 Culver City behind two fourth quarter touchdowns from junior WR Khalil Cueva ’23 and a second half shutout from the defense to thwart the Centaurs’ upset bid. Down 14-3 at the half, Loyola would eventually escape with the 17-14 win on the road. In their first game of the playoffs, Loyola defeated No. 13 seed Lawndale at Smith Field, 13-7. Loyola will now make its 21st trip to the CIF Semifinals
Orange is coming off a 34-18 upset over the No. 1 seed in the Div. VI bracket, San Juan Hills, and defeated No. 9 seed Huntington Beach in overtime in Round 1, 34-28. Friday’s battle between the No. 4 and No. 8 seeds will send one to the CIF-SS Div. VI bracket championship game on Nov. 25/26.
