No. 5-ranked Loyola Lacrosse, the defending CIF-SS Division I Champions, will take the five seed into this year’s playoffs. The Cubs host the Santiago Sharks from Corona on Wednesday (May 4) in first round action in the 2022 CIF Southern Section Ford Division I Playoffs.

PREVIEW: Loyola is the reigning CIF Southern Section Division I Champion. Head coach Jimmy Borell and the Cubs made history as the the first-ever CIF Lacrosse champions in 2021 (the first official year as a CIF-sanctioned sport).

LAST TIME OUT: The Cubs went down to Carlsbad and pulled out the 8-7 win against La Costa Canyon of the CIF San Diego Section in their final regular season game on April 28th. This year’s schedule was one of the toughest in the Southern Section, with the Cubs facing 7 of the 9 teams currently ranked in the Top 10 in Division I plus San Francisco's St. Ignatius Prep, Regis Jesuit of Colorado, and Brophy Prep of Phoenix to conclude with a 14-6 overall mark. Loyola also ran the Mission League once again, going undefeated against league foes and winning the championship over Harvard-Westlake.
2022 CIF PLAYOFFS: A win over the 12-seed Sharks would send Loyola into the CIF Quarterfinals on Friday (May 6) against the winner of No. 4 Corona del Mar/No. 13 Westlake. Game time and location is TBD. For the full 2022 bracket, click here.
