PREVIEW: Loyola (2-5) heads into this Friday's matchup against the Celts (2-5) with some momentum after last weekend's 25-11 victory over St. Paul. It was the first Angelus League win of the season for the Cubs, who will look to add another in Encino. Crespi has lost back-to-back league road contests (at St. Paul, 7-48; at Cathedral, 0-56) and has also lost three in a row to Loyola dating back to the 2020 season. The Cubs won those games by the following scores: 49-0 at home in 2022; 45-20 away in 2021; 54-6 neutral location in 2020.
UNDERCLASSMEN: This year, Loyola has a sophomore-only team and a freshman-only team to round out its three-level football program. Both squads are past the halfway point of their campaigns and will look to finish out 2023 strong:
Loyola’s Class of 2026 sophomores, with a 2-0 league record, have a chance to win the league title outright this Thursday (Oct. 12) at Crespi at 4PM. Loyola Frosh will play two home games (Oct. 12 and 14) at Smith Field that will be streamed via the NFHS Network:
- Frosh vs Hart on Thursday at 4PM
- Frosh vs Amat on Saturday at 10AM
