This week the Cubs were bested at home by the Vista Murrieta Broncos, losing 37-21. The game started with a scoreless first quarter. In the second quarter, Vista Murrieta scored bringing the score to 7-0. However, on Loyola’s next drive QB Brayden Zermeno ‘21 threw a pass to WR Jacoby Kelly ‘22 for a 20-yard gain which culminated in an 11-yard touchdown run by Harrison Allen ‘22 bringing the score to 7-7. The Cubs gave up 2 more touchdowns and ended the first half with a score of 21-7 Broncos. In the third quarter, Vista Murrieta kicked a field goal and scored another touch down to bring the score to 31-7 Broncos. Going into the fourth quarter the Broncos scored one final time to bring the score to 37-7. The Cubs made a strong attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter with RB Harrison Allen ‘22 scoring on a 58-yard touchdown run bringing the score to 37-14. The Cubs then forced a fumble, and senior OLB Dominick Belisle recovered the ball and ran it back for a touchdown bringing the score to 37-21. Next, MLB Ryan Quintanar ‘20 also had a fumble recovery, but the Cubs were not able to score on the drive and so the gamed ended with a final score of 37-21. The Cubs showed true grit and even when the score was not in their favor, they played hard till the last whistle.
