Varsity Baseball (17-8) will look to start a new winning streak as the Cubs host No. 3-ranked Harvard-Westlake in the final three-game regular season Mission League series of the year. Loyola will host Games 1 (Apr. 15) and 3 (Apr. 18) at Hernandez Field, while Game 2 on Wednesday (Apr. 17) will be played at O’Malley Field in Studio City. All three are set for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch. Additionally, Game 3 will mark Senior Day for Loyola’s 12 graduating seniors and managers.
The Cubs, who are receiving votes in the CIF-SS Division II Poll, currently sit at 17-8 overall and 7-8 in conference play after having their 7-game win streak snapped in a tough 4-3 decision on the road last Friday at Chaminade. Loyola trails Harvard-Westlake (10-1-1), Notre Dame (10-2) and Chaminade (10-8) in the Mission League standings.
Junior Kevin Parada ’20 leads Loyola with a .444 batting average, adding 27 RBIs and a team-high 4 homeruns. Fellow juniors Brendan Nolta ’20 (.357 BA), Wyatt Nelson ’20 (.351) and Matt Costopoulos ’20 (.348) round out the Cubs’ top hitters. Costopoulos has tallied 15 RBIs, while a pair of seniors—Colin Livingston ’19 and Connor Roggero ’19—have chipped in 13 and 11, respectively. On the mound, Derek Yoo ’20 (4-0; 33 Ks) and Joey Phelps ’19 (4-2 record; 60 Ks) have four wins each, while sophomore David Case ’21 has recorded four saves.
