After a 10-0 win over Norte Dame High School, the Cubs faced Harvard Westlake at home Wednesday evening.
Starting off with fast pace touches against Westlake’s unique formation, the Cubs gained an early advantage. Only four minutes into the match junior Spencer Roberts rushes a defender, steals the ball, dribbles past the goalie and taps it in making it 1-0. But getting caught up in the match’s fast pace the Cubs faced some disorientation on the pitch. Substitute Ben Bolte enters the game and beats a defender in Harvard Westlake’s corner, crosses it towards the net finding Kenechi Ekeomodi. Ekeomodi heads it and it deflects off a player and goes in! 2-0 CUBS. And in the last minute of the first half, Michael Maloney leads another attack. He takes a shot from 10 yards out but it’s blocked. The battle goes into the box and Rogers takes a shot off the deflection, it’s blocked again. But Maloney is there yet again and puts it in the middle right side, 3-0.
Second half
Throughout the second half the Cubs maintained their control of the ball, and core midfielders helped Loyola secure the win. With 12 minutes left in the match midfielder and Senior Eric Arreola comes up pitch for an attack sided by Liam Hook. Arreola goes for a goal in the box and it speeds by the keeper int the bottom right corner. 4-0.
Over the past few games, it looks like the Cubs are gaining more and more rhythm as a team. And while three shutout games in a row is impressive, Loyola still has seven more games to go in the Mission League. This Friday the Cubs head to West Hills to take on Chaminade High School at 5pm.
