Loyola’s Junior Varsity and Frosh/Soph Volleyball teams concluded their seasons in late April, putting up two solid records throughout the course of their 2019 campaigns. The JV team went 24-2 overall and was led by 17th-year head coach Larry Rojas and assistant Nick Porterfield ’12, while the Frosh/Soph team went 23-4 under the guidance of head coach Kaitlin Collins-Pardo and student assistant Isaiah Beltran ’19.
The 16-member JV squad, comprised of four juniors, 10 sophomores and two freshmen, won its first 13 matches of the year and 24 of its first 25 total. Just six sets were dropped all season as the Cubs recorded 22 clean sweeps in their 26-game schedule.
The Frosh/Soph team nearly matched the success of their JV counterparts, going on 7-game and 14-game winning streaks and dropping just 15 of the 62 sets they played all season long. The youngest Cubs recorded 16 sweeps in 27 total games. Additionally, both of Loyola’s lower level volleyball teams swept through the Mission League to claim yet another league title in 2019.
